Petrochemical & PipelineBaytown, Texas, Petrochemical & Pipeline Explosion AttorneysPipeline and petrochemical explosions have devastated the lives of many families in Texas. At The Linebaugh Law Firm in Baytown, our lawyers have extensive experience investigating the causes of these accidents and in obtaining compensation for the victims and their families. Our law firm represented seven of the victims in the 2005 explosion at BP's Texas City oil refinery, which killed 15 workers and injured hundreds more. The accident investigation revealed a fundamental lack of maintenance and safety precautions needed to protect petrochemical plant workers and the community. Another gas explosion took place at the Warren Petroleum location in Mont Belvieu. In this case, the company misidentified the lines where three contractors were working and instructed the contractors to cut open a live line with a steel saw. Gas went everywhere and finally exploded when it found an ignition source. Two of the workers were killed and the third was injured. Linebaugh helped represent two of the three workers and their families, obtaining what at the time was a record settlement in the state of Texas. In Liberty County, a husband and wife were awoken one night when the family dog started barking. When the husband looked out his window to see what was bothering the dog, he saw a cloud of white gas coming toward the house. What had happened was that a car had run off the road and struck an aboveground pipe valve near the house. The man immediately knew the danger the white cloud posed. While he and his wife were trying to scramble to safety, the gas found an ignition source and exploded. Both were severely burned in the explosion and fire. The catastrophe could have been prevented by simply placing barricades around the above-ground pipe valve station. In another case in Chambers County, homeowners were injured when internal corrosion of a pipeline caused a rupture. In this case, the gas never found an ignition source, but nearby homeowners were injured when the rupture blew numerous large boulders of clay, some the size of footballs and some even larger, which struck nearby houses, penetrating the roofs, ripping through the houses, and terrorizing and injuring the families within the houses. Such pipeline ruptures and explosions happen from time to time in Texas due to a lack of maintenance. When these accidents happen, people get hurt.
